Excellent Value, Large Barn 14'x24'

"After pricing out some other options the Gambrel Large Barn seemed to suit our needs the best. Exceptional price even as a DIY kit goes. We went with the 14'x24' kit, without the floor kit. Product arrived within a few weeks, which is pretty quick given its size. Two pallets, 3600lbs. It was packaged very well, on sturdy solid oak pallets and bumper pieces nailed on, zero damage to the materials in transit even though the pallets were somewhat banged up. Unpacking was relatively easy, and you can build as you go for most of the pallet, but some key parts were buried under the siding. About 10% of the pieces were warped, but usable, with maybe two or three boards needing full replacement, which is pretty good. We were missing a couple of the pre-mitered top gambrel wall studs, but those are easy to cut yourself based on the other ones. Our rake blocks were also the wrong size, but again, easy to make. A few of our studs and three of the siding panels already had holes in them though, it looked like some parts were screwed together to make sure they were cut right. Caulking will fix that, but it was a little disappointing. The instructions were great for the most part, pictures were clear and helpful without too many "big jumps" in between each step. We designed and built our own floor cheaper than the optional floor kit, but theirs was more robust. The included hardware (nails) seemed to be pretty decent quality, but we did not use them. Honestly a nail gun is required for a project this large, we had 3 and it still took us some time. We also decided to move the door to the side wall instead of the end wall, we only had to cut one wall plate to make it work and did not end up needing any extra siding. I would say the included door was probably the most impressive part. Very well built, great hinges, smooth operation and latching. With, depending on the day, 2-3 people working on this it took us about 4 days of work to knock it all out. Saved easily $8000+ compared to a prefab or contracted option. I highly recommend this option if you have some basic carpentry skills and knowledge. You will need at minimum two people to put it together, and I highly recommend a scaffold for the rafter installs."

Shed was way bigger than

"Shed was way bigger than expected, in a good way. Bottom line up front, I shopped around a lot and this is the best deal for your money. Pros: the instructions were clear, the boards were all marked, there was more than enough hardware provided. Customer service was great. Terry answered all my questions immediately. Cons: mine was missing six 2x4 studs but I had some on hand so I didn’t even contact customer service about it. Not really a con, but be cognizant of the size shed you ordered and understand that the scale may require multiple people to be able to assemble due to the size of the building. At 16’ x 24’ my “shed” was more like a barn build, especially with 16’ tall roof. The design of the header for the double doors has two 2x4s nailed together, broad end down, with no cripple stud underneath to support it. It’s on a gable wall so not technically load bearing but it will sag over time so I built that header differently. Also, having two rafter ties directly above the wall top plates didn’t work with what I needed for overhead height, so I replaced them with four collar ties higher up on the trusses, below the first roof ridge. These issues aside I would still use and recommend this company again due to the immense value you get. I also added a lean to on one side, peaked the roof over the door and added a cupola just to make it look nicer. Just waiting on my black metal roofing to come in. Also after doing some research I’m having the ceiling insulated with closed cell spray foam which should add even more structural rigidity to it. Not that it’s lacking any but more is always better."
